The 2025 Ryder Cup has been a blowout so far, with Europe up 11.5-4.5 on the Americans in New York.
With Europe up by seven, all they need to win the cup is to win three matches on Sunday. The final session of the Ryder Cup will feature 12 singles matches, the lone singles event of the tournament and the only day with 12 separate matches.
Team USA essentially needs to run the table to pull off the comeback. In Ryder Cup history, the largest comeback a team has overcome is a four-point deficit entering Sunday, which has been done a few times, most recently in 2012.
However, while the Americans are still mathematically alive and have home-course advantage, the Europeans will still look to be on their A-game. Here’s a breakdown of the Sunday singles matches to round out the Ryder Cup.

Despite the Europe’s big lead, Sunday still promises to be exciting with several big-name matchups. Here are the five best matchups on the final day of the Ryder Cup.

1. Scottie Scheffler vs. Rory McIlroy
The fourth match of the day is also the main event, as the top two-ranked players in golf face off. Scheffler vs. McIlroy is a battle of three of the last four major winners, the last two Masters winners, and two players with nine combined majors.
Scheffler hasn’t played as well as McIlroy through the first two days, but he is still Team USA’s best player. For the Americans to get back into this Ryder Cup, they need Scheffler to take down McIlroy on Sunday. At the very least, though, it’s a rare one-on-one matchup between two of the games best.
2. Xander Schauffele vs. Jon Rahm
Another battle of big names, Schauffele and Rahm each have two majors and have the major grand slam if you combine their wins. This year hasn’t been great for either, as Schauffele has battled injury and Rahm took some time to adjust after moving to LIV, but Rahm has produced another stellar Ryder Cup regardless.
If Schauffele can find his 2024 form, this could be a heavyweight battle, but he hasn’t been that guy this Ryder Cup. Rahm’s focus and toughness will be tough for the American to beat.
3. Justin Thomas vs. Tommy Fleetwood
No player has been better at the Ryder Cup than Fleetwood, who is became the first road player to go 4-0-0 in the first four matches since the 1960s. He has quickly become Europe’s Ryder Cup anchor, as he has won over 70 percent of his matches in the event since 2018.
Thomas, meanwhile, is the veteran presence on Team USA and is sure to provide a ton of energy. While Thomas struggled Friday morning, he was much better in four-ball pairings, but he needs to find another gear to even compete with Fleetwood.

4. Cameron Young vs. Justin Rose
The first match of the day is fascinating, with the veteran Rose taking on the rookie Young. Rose is by far the most-experienced player in the event, but he is still effective with two wins so far and a dominant performance on Saturday night.
On the other hand, Young’s debut has been impressive himself, totaling a 2-1-0 record as Team USA’s biggest bright spot. Young may not have Rose’s Ryder Cup experience but he does have more experience playing Bethpage Black, which he hopes will be a wild card.
5. Patrick Cantlay vs. Ludvig Aberg
Cantlay is just 1-2-1 on the weekend, but he is still one of Team USA’s best Ryder Cup performers. The Americans have leaned on his putter at critical times and Keegan Bradley has used him in every session along with Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.
Aberg has more raw talent than Cantlay, but his Ryder Cup has been a mixed bag thus far with a 1-2-0 record. This battle will be Aberg’s talent vs. Cantlay’s grittiness and could be an unexpected thrill.
