Ryan Hartman suspension: Wild forward receives 10-game ban for roughing Senators’ Tim Stutzle

The Wild will be without one of their more physical presences on the forward line for the foreseeable future.

Right winger Ryan Hartman will miss Minnesota’s next 10 games, the NHL announced Monday night.

Hartman, 30, has been a formidable presence in the Wild’s attack since his arrival in 2019-20. For a Minnesota side hoping to cement its place as a playoff team, his absence could have a sizable impact

How long is Ryan Hartman suspended?

Hartman will be barred from competition for 10 games. With the Four Nations tournament set to take place in the coming few weeks, which will bring a break in NHL action, Hartman won’t be eligible to return until Mar. 9.

He’ll forget $487,804.90 as a result of his ban.

Why was Ryan Hartman suspended?

Hartman’s suspension stems from a collision with Senators center Tim Stutzle during Minnesota’s 6-0 loss to the Senators on Feb. 1.

Following a faceoff between the two forwards, Hartman smashed Stutzle’s head into the ice. Stutzle’s helmet went flying as a result of the clash.

“It’s important to note that this is not a hockey play,” the NHL Department of Player Safety said in a video. “Hartman contends he’s attempting to use his hands to regain his balance using Stutzle for support and their fall to the ice is accidental. We disagree… (Hartman) takes advantage of a vulnerable player in an unacceptable manner.”

The lengthy nature of Hartman’s suspension stems from repeated violations. Hartman has four suspensions to his name since 2023. That’s not to mention seven additional fines he’s accrued over the course of his career.

Ryan Hartman contract

Hartman inked a three-year, $12 million with the Wild ahead of the 2024-25 season. The Hilton Head, South Carolina, native has proven himself a steady middle-six forward in recent years. He’s got seven goals and 10 assists across 48 games this season.
