The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a fantastic 2024 campaign, as the team is 10-4 and atop the AFC North through 14 games. Though Pittsburgh suffered a Week 15 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, Mike Tomlin’s squad has won seven of their last nine games and clinched a spot in the AFC playoffs last week. The Steelers will travel to M&T Bank Stadium to square off against the Baltimore Ravens in a pivotal divisional matchup in Week 16.
Though Pittsburgh’s stout defense and tremendous coaching have been vital to their success this season, the offense has also shown a ton of promise and has been making steady improvements. The unit has flourished under first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and the leadership of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. The nine-time Pro Bowler took over as the Steelers’ starter in Week 7 and has been one of the most consistent signal callers in football.
Wilson has posted a 6-2 record in eight starts in 2024, tossing 13 touchdowns with just three interceptions and a 103.0 passer rating. The 36-year-old has stabilized the sport’s most crucial position for the Steelers this season, but his future with Pittsburgh is surrounded by some uncertainty.
Wilson will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and if the veteran continues to perform at a high level, he will be a hot commodity on the opening market.
Though Wilson’s future with the Steelers is still unknown, the 2012 third-round pick was caught telling a young fan that he hopes to re-sign with Pittsburgh during Tuesday Night’s episode of “Hard Knocks: In Season With the AFC North.”

It’s evident that Wilson feels rejuvenated after a tumultuous tenure with the Denver Broncos that lasted just two seasons. The Super Bowl XLVIII champion signed a one-year deal with the Steelers during the 2024 offseason after being released by Denver days before the start of free agency.
Though Wilson is one of the most prized free agent players this offseason, it’s clear the former Wisconsin Badger is elated to be a Steeler and wants to stay in Pittsburgh for the long run.
