Ruben Amorim reveals the ‘only way to prepare’ for Europa League final ahead of Chelsea clash

With the Europa League final just around the corner, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim isn’t in the mood for easing off the gas.

Instead, he’s made it clear that Friday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea is more than just a warm-up. For Amorim, it’s the only way to get his players in the right frame of mind for the big night in Bilbao.

United take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, just five days before they face Tottenham in the Europa League final.

While fans and players might have one eye on the trophy, Amorim is fully focused on the league. He wants performance, purpose, and points.

“The best way is to face the game like we should face the game,” said Amorim. “We need to perform, we need to win points in the Premier League.”

Amorim knows the risk of injuries, but he also knows rhythm is vital. A week off before the final? That’s not in his playbook. Rest can wait — right now, it’s about keeping the engine running.

“The only way I know how to prepare a final, in the normal game for our league, we must play the same way as a final.” said the Man Utd boss.

Amorim also hinted that Friday’s match could still shape his thinking for the final. The door to the starting XI isn’t closed, and any standout showing at Stamford Bridge could lead to a spot in the Bilbao lineup.

Injuries remain a concern, though. The boss admitted that players like Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro have been handled with extra care. After all, losing key names before the final would be the biggest own goal of all.

Still, Amorim isn’t panicking. He believes the team is close to clicking — if not always on the scoreboard, then at least in performance.

“We’ve been so near,” he added. “Small details matter.”

Amorim wants sharpness, not softness. For him, Chelsea isn’t a distraction — it’s the dress rehearsal.
