Manchester United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup following an embarrassing defeat against EFL League Two club Grimsby Town on August 27.
The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 loss against Arsenal in their opening Premier League fixture, followed by a 1-1 draw against Fulham in their second.
After a disappointing start to the season, Man United will be hoping to bag their first win of the 2025/26 campaign in their upcoming match against Burnley in the top flight on August 30 at Old Trafford.
While addressing the press ahead of the upcoming clash, Man United head coach Ruben Amorim spoke about his demeanor after the crushing defeat in the Carabao Cup and said,
“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years. Sometimes I love to be with my players. Sometimes I don’t want to be with my players. I need to improve on that. It is going to be hard,” as per Sky Sports.
“I know that when I speak these things, to be really honest, every time that we have a defeat like that, I will be like that. Sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players – this is my way of doing things. I am going to be like that. In that moment, I was so frustrated.”

The Portuguese manager admitted being ‘disappointed with everything’ and added,
“You have experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more calm. I am not going to be like that. I am trying to accept that and I am going to be who I am, that’s why I have the passion I have. In that moment I was disappointed. We had a good pre-season and were playing better.”
“That kind of performance, I was really disappointed with everything. But now it is a new game.”
Amorim then spoke about Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Man United, mentioning that the Red Devils ‘need’ the 20-year-old in their squad.
What did Ruben Amorim say about Man United academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo?
Several reports suggested that after Man United’s 12-11 loss on penalties to Grimbsy Town, Mainoo told the club’s hierarchy that he wants to make a loan move away this campaign. During his pre-match conference, Amorim told reporters that he wants the Englishman to stay at Old Trafford and ‘fight for his place.’
“I want Kobbie to stay, and he needs to fight for his place. We need Kobbie. That is not going to change. The players not playing with be disappointed but everyone will have opportunities. You have to fight in the week.”
Mainoo scored two goals and provided one assist in 37 games for Man United last season. The midfielder is yet to make his first Premier League appearance this campaign, and will be hoping to be named in the starting squad against Burnley this weekend.
