Ruben Amorim claims Man United channelled ‘Fergie time’ in Man City derby win

Ruben Amorim fired off a rallying message as Manchester United snatched an incredible 2-1 Premier League derby win at rivals Manchester City.

The Portuguese coach was delighted at full-time as his team silenced the Etihad Stadium with two goals in the final minutes in Manchester.

Bruno Fernandes’ 88th minute penalty hauled United level, after an improved second-half performance, and Amad Diallo brilliantly steered home from a tight angle to clinch victory.

Amorim hailed the resilience of his players at full-time, but admitted they needed a little lift, akin to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson iconic time in charge at United coined the term ‘Fergie Time’ – based on United’s ability to score late goals (mainly at home) in added time – and Amorim thinks this could be the start of a new era.

“It was incredible. I think we deserved the win. It was a very tough match, but we believed until the end. We managed to score, we needed that win, it was important for us and for our fans,” as per quotes from BBC Sport.

“We were in the game for 90 minutes and that’s very good. We talk about the Arsenal game, we played well in the first half, but they did not believe we could win. Today was so different.

“I also believe. Then we have Fergie time, and put things together, and something magic happened. It was a good day for us.”

Amorim’s team face a quick turnaround, as they head to Tottenham in the EFL Cup on December 19, before hosting Bournemouth in EPL action on December 22.
