Manchester United drew 1-1 against Fulham in their second Premier League match of the 2025/26 campaign on August 24 at Craven Cottage.
The Red Devils concluded their run in the previous season with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League, which is the lowest ever in the club’s history. Following their defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final last campaign, United are also left without any European football for the first time since 2013-14.
Man United have made significant changes in the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad for better results this season in the domestic competitions.
While they are yet to bag their first win of the season, Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has a positive outlook towards the Red Devils’ missing out on European football, mentioning that the team are not ‘prepared’ for that yet.
What did Man United boss Ruben Amorim say?
After their tie against Fulham, Man United are set to face Grimsby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup on August 27 at Blundell Park. Speaking ahead of the upcoming game, Amorim mentioned that his squad ‘need time to build a base’ before returning to playing in Europe.
“We were not prepared to play in Europe and the Premier League. We need time to develop as a team. We have three games this week and we have quality players, so we need rotation to try to win every game,” as per BBC Sport.

“We need time to build a base and then, in the future, to move forward. We will reach a moment where we need to have Europe so everybody can play games.”
After their EFL Cup match, Man United are set to host Burnley at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on August 30.
