Roman Wilson has had a rough start to his NFL career, as the young wide receiver missed most of his rookie season due to a hamstring injury and is working his way back to form in 2025.
Wilson has had a ton of ups and downs, but the Michigan product showcased his potential and the player he can be when given opportunities during Pittsburgh’s Week 2 preseason contest versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 24-year-old didn’t receive many targets, but made the most of the chances he did get.
Roman Wilson stats in preseason Week 2 vs. Bucs
Receptions | 2 |
Receiving yards | 72 |
Touchdowns | 0 |
Targets | 4 |
Longest reception | 42 |
Wilson generated two explosive plays in the first quarter. The first came on a post route, where Wilson beat his man and caught a deep ball from Mason Rudolph. The second came towards the end of the quarter, as Wilson worked his way across the field and hauled in a nice pass from Skylar Thompson.
With the Steelers lacking a bona fide No.2 wide receiver to pair with DK Metcalf, Wilson emerging as a viable receiving option would be a fantastic development for Pittsburgh.
The 2024 third-round pick has the tools and athleticism to be a dynamic playmaker in Arthur Smith’s offense, and he took a few steps forward with an impressive showing on Saturday against Tampa Bay.
