Rockets’ Kevin Durant is getting left wide open so teams can double Alperen Sengun

Kevin Durant has an argument as the greatest scorer to ever step onto a basketball court.

In terms of pure scoring ability, to do it efficiently and consistently from any spot on the floor, KD is as good as anyone to ever do it.

That’s what makes what has begun to happen with the Houston Rockets absolutely mind-boggling.

Opponents have started to occasionally leave Durant to go double team a different player.

Watch this clip below. Alperen Sengun, off to a ridiculous start to the season, draws a double, and Durant is left alone. Kevin Durant gets left alone.

The defense may have whiffed on its rotations just a bit, but still. And it’s also great offense from the Rockets to put Durant closest to Sengun so the defense has to make this decision.

But come on now. That can’t happen. It can’t even be a concept in someone’s mind. How could you do this?

Sengun is also a lot like Nikola Jokic in that if you bring the double team, he’s going to make the ideal pass to take advantage. He’s not really double-able.

Durant went to Houston because he knew he’d have immense talent around him. Even he probably didn’t expect wide open looks like this.

But you can be sure KD won’t be missing shots like that anytime soon.
