The Houston Rockets have been managing the health concerns surrounding center Steven Adams, and recently an ESPN insider provided an update on his game-to-game status.
According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Adams is “never playing a back-to-back again.” While not a concrete, 100 percent true statement, the sentiment still rings extremely likely for Adams and the Rockets.
Adams’ health has influenced some of the Rockets’ decision making
Adams’ questionable health status is likely a large reason behind the team re-acquiring Clint Capela this offseason. Adams has been dealing with knee issues stemming from a PCL injury suffered in 2023.
Adams was acquired in February 2024 in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. Upon being cleared to play during the 2024-25 season, he averaged 3.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 58 appearances (three starts). Adams also saw his minutes per game decrease significantly, playing just 13.7 minutes per contest last season.
Regardless, Adams should provide the Rockets with solid depth in their frontcourt for next season. He may not be the player he once was with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Adams can still be productive in spurts. He’ll be a part of a Rockets team that is looking to contend in the Western Conference next season after a breakout year that saw them win 52 games.
