It has been a great season thus far for the Houston Rockets as they have been one of the most surprising teams in the NBA.
After barely missing out on the final Play-In spot last season, Houston has completely turned things around this season. They currently sit second in the Western Conference standings with a 32-14 record and look as though they are going to be a championship threat.
The Rockets are led by their young duo of Alperen Şengün and Jalen Green, who have both been excellent this season. Their mix of young stars and veterans has propelled the Rockets into being one of the best teams in the NBA this season, but they could look to add another star player to their roster ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
One player who has recently become available in the trade market is De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings. Of course, Fox is from Texas, and it has been rumored that Houston could be a team that shows interest in landing the 27-year-old guard.
There have been reports that the Rockets are set on keeping the roster the same this season and seeing where their young core takes them, but with many teams interested in Fox, they may have to pounce on the opportunity to add a true superstar this season.
In a possible trade, Houston could send Fed VanVleet, Jock Landale and draft capital to Sacramento for Fox and Trey Lyles. The Kings are looking to add win-now players and future draft capital in any trade involving Fox and they would receive both in this deal.
For Houston, swapping VanVleet for Fox would be a major upgrade. Fox is a younger and better version of VanVleet who could elevate the Rockets to another level. The 27-year-old is a great scorer, playmaker and defender who would give the Rockets a much-needed superstar to pair alongside their abundance of young talent.
By making this trade, the Rockets would immediately improve their title chances and if their young core can continue to play like they have, they could win their first championship since 1994-95 this season.
