Rockets could form dream pairing with Nets ex-All Star buyout candidate

The Houston Rockets are an up-and-coming team that could use a versatile two-way force to propel them further in pursuing a championship this season.

If the Western Conference has taught the NBA world anything, it’s that the competition can get the better of any team on a yearly basis. In a dog-eat-dog playoff race, the young, athletic Rockets may have a golden opportunity to add a former three-time All-Star who can run and gun with their unit and help them make a deep postseason push.

Multiple reports have revealed that Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons has become a premier target in the league on the buyout market after parting ways with the franchise:

“Newly bought-out Ben Simmons will meet with the Clippers, Cavaliers and Rockets today, league sources tell me,” NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Friday.

Houston is dead last in the NBA in assists with 22.6 dimes per contest. They also allow the ninth-most points in the paint per game at 49.1 PPG and clearly could use another top-notch passer and capable power forward. Simmons checks those boxes with his elite 6.9 assists and 5.2 rebounds in only 25 minutes of play for the Nets.

The LSU product can fly in the open court, use his size to get to the rim and has incredible court vision. He fits perfectly with a fast-paced Rockets team and could find athletic talents like Amen Thompson, Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. on the break. Simmons will likely come at an affordable price, which makes him a perfect match that Houston can pursue should they want to invest in a low-risk, high-reward player.
