Rockets already talking about contract extension with Kevin Durant?

The Houston Rockets hit the jackpot not even a month into the NBA’s offseason this summer, working out a trade with the Phoenix Suns that landed them Kevin Durant in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft, which the team used to draft Duke’s Khaman Maluach.

Durant, quite frankly, needs no introduction. “The Durantula” is a 15-time NBA All-Star, a two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors, and the 2014 NBA MVP.

So, would it really surprise anyone if the Rockets are already trying to extend Durant’s contract before his first season in Houston even starts?

Durant Is Set To Receive $54 Million In 2025

KD is currently in the final year of a four-year contract that is supposed to land him $194 million and has reportedly been open to an extension with Houston, and according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, this is a very real possibility between the two sides, even though Durant may have to accept less than a maximum deal.

“The Rockets and Durant have had discussions about a new contract and there is belief they will come to terms, sources said, but they’ve yet to come to an agreement. Durant, like (LeBron) James, is no longer viewed as a centerpiece, as Houston builds around a young core of players it acquired through the draft. The Rockets view Durant as a final component, a veteran who graduates them into true contender status.”

Durant turns 37 years old on September 29.
