Robbie Keane could return to former club

Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros is currently fifth in Hungary’s top flight and competing in the Europa League, but a vacancy at a team he represented has come up.

Keane won the Nemzeti Bajnoksag I last season with Ferencvaros, whilst his managerial CV also includes winning the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He was also the player-manager of Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League. Keane has also worked as an assistant to Sam Allardyce at Leeds United, Jonathan Woodgate and Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough, and Mick McCarthy at Ireland.

It could now be time for Keane to take a managerial job at a huge club. According to talkSPORT, “Keane is being considered to replace Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager.”

Rodgers resigned as Celtic manager yesterday, with the Hoops trailing the Scottish Premiership leaders Heart of Midlothian by eight points.

Keane had a spell on loan at Celtic from Liverpool back in 2010. There, he scored 16 goals, with two assists in 19 games in all competitions.

It will be a gamble for Celtic to give Keane a chance, as he is still relatively inexperienced as a manager.

Ange Postecoglou, who has won the Scottish Premiership twice with Celtic, has also been linked with the role.

The Australian needs to rebuild his reputation as a manager after being sacked by both Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest this year.

Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town is also reportedly a contender. He is in charge of Ipswich back in the Championship this season following their relegation from the Premier League.
