Rio Ferdinand tells Man City who to pick in goalkeeper debate

Manchester City saw a James Trafford error lead to a Tottenham goal in City’s loss to Spurs.

Trafford came in from Burnley on a buy-back clause, with both Stefan Ortega’s and Ederson’s futures up in the air.

Pep Guardiola’s side has also been linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has fallen out of favor with Luis Enrique at PSG.

Guardiola hasn’t ruled out signing another keeper, but it’s contingent on Ederson’s potential exit.

Former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, has given his pick on who Guardiola should give the starting spot to.

Did Ferdinand pick Ederson or Donnarumma in Man City’s goal for the season?

Speaking on his podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former defender backed Donnarumma as City’s number one.

He said, “Well, he’s not Ederson with the ball at his feet. But I tell you what he does do, he keeps the ball out of the net.

I watched him multiple times in the Champions League last season, and at times, he was outrageous.”

Donnarumma was a key member of the PSG squad that secured the Champions League trophy.

Ferdinand continued, “Big moments, big saves. And what I love about him is that he actually can be quiet in a game for a long time, and then all of a sudden, bang, you need a moment. Courtois is a bit similar in that respect.

With Donnarumma, the only thing that goes against him in the modern game is that with his feet, he doesn’t look as clean.

“Ederson looks night and day different and better than him with the ball at his feet. But I would say that Donnarumma is a better goalkeeper.

“And if I was a defender, I’d want Donnarumma in my goal.”
