The New England Patriots appear to have an injury concern with running back Rhamondre Stevenson ahead of the Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Stevenson was not spotted during the open portion of practice on Wednesday, which likely means he’ll be listed as a non-participant when the injury report drops later in the day.
“Rhamondre Stevenson is not spotted here at the media-access portion of Wednesday’s practice — held under gray skies and with a light rain,” Reiss said.
As of this writing, it isn’t clear what Stevenson is dealing with.
He wasn’t listed on the team’s injury report last week and there was no report of him getting banged-up on Sunday.
The Patriots also made a few roster moves that hint Stevenson’s status for Week 9 is in doubt. The team added Rushawn Baker and Jonathan Ward to the practice squad on Tuesday and are promoting Terrell Jennings to the 53-man roster on Wednesday.
TreVeyon Henderson should see more work
Of course, if Stevenson sits out, rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson figures to handle the bulk of the work now that Antonio Gibson is no longer around after he suffered a torn ACL.
Henderson has had a disappointing season after entering the 2025 campaign with a ton of hype, and it’s clear the coaching staff doesn’t completely trust him, which is why nothing can be written in stone as far as his workload is concerned.
But he’s also coming off his best game of the season after posting 10 carries for 75 yards in Week 8.
His performance wasn’t without a blemish, though, as he did lose a fumble. That said, with all the leeway Stevenson has gotten with his countless fumbles in 2025, chances are that won’t impact Henderson’s opportunity if the veteran sits out.
Along with Henderson, the Patriots have Jennings son the 53-man roster and Baker, Ward and D’Ernest Johnson on the practice squad.
Jennings could be the RB2 if Stevenson sits, and the Patriots are likely to promote one of the three practice squad backs.
