Report: Manchester United enter transfer talks in ‘last chance’ to sell Marcus Rashford in January

Manchester United are scrambling to find a solution for Marcus Rashford’s uncertain future, with reports suggesting the club is in late-stage discussions over a possible loan move.

With just days left in the January transfer window, the Red Devils are running out of options for the 27-year-old forward.

Rashford, who expressed his desire to leave in December, has been left out of the squad by manager Ruben Amorim once again. The club’s struggle to move him is largely due to his high wages, reportedly exceeding £300,000 per week.

According to The Telegraph, United are attempting to strike a deal with Barcelona, though negotiations remain difficult.

If an agreement isn’t reached, Amorim may be forced to reintegrate Rashford into the team, despite their ongoing issues.

Would Barcelona be a fit for Rashford?

A move to Barcelona could be an ideal opportunity for Rashford.

The Spanish giants have secured a Champions League knockout spot and are competing for the La Liga title, currently sitting third behind Real Madrid.

Under Hansi Flick, Barca plays a direct style of football that could suit Rashford, who thrives in quick counter-attacks.

However, questions remain about his defensive work rate, an area where he has struggled this season. Additionally, breaking into Barcelona’s attack won’t be easy, with Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha all in top form.

Why United need to sell Rashford

United’s financial struggles are well-documented. The club is finalizing a deal for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu but has limited funds for further signings.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented cost-cutting measures to stay within financial regulations.

Even if Rashford moves on loan, United would likely still pay a significant portion of his wages. A permanent transfer would be the best outcome for both Rashford and the club, but time is running out.
