After Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain to win the FIFA Club World Cup, they had the unexpected fortune of receiving the trophy from US President Donald Trump.
The President of the United States of America was in attendance as Cole Palmer put in a masterclass – with two goals and an assist – in a dominant 3-0 win over the French giants at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
After the game, Trump was asked to do the honours and hand over the trophy to the Blues skipper Reece James.
After doing so, Trump surprised everyone by deciding to stay back on the podium and join in Chelsea’s celebrations.
Trump was also spotted having a word with James after the celebrations began to die down and the England international has revealed what Trump said to him pitch side.

Speaking after the game, with journalist Ben Jacobs relaying James’ comments on X, the defender said: “I wasn’t expecting him to lift the trophy with us, but I guess it shows just how big the tournament is. He just congratulated me and the team and told us to enjoy the moment.”
It is the second trophy James has lifted as Chelsea captain following the Blues’ Conference League triumph back in May.
Maresca’s charges will now head off on their summer break before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The club also have two warm up games scheduled, on August 8 and 10 against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan respectively, both at Stamford Bridge – before a campaign opener at home to Crystal Palace on August 17.
