The only thing missing was the post-midnight news break.
The Boston Red Sox were kind enough to complete their astounding Rafael Devers trade to the San Francisco Giants around 7 p.m. ET.
But other than that, this is the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers all over again.
It’s one of the most shocking, unexpected deals in MLB history, just like the Doncic trade was for the NBA.

It’s not clear the team trading away the superstar got a great return. It’s also not clear that they even shopped the superstar around elsewhere before pulling the trigger on a deal.
The only obvious thing is that in both cases, the best player in the trade went to a team no one even realized was pursuing such a transcendent talent.
Sure, Doncic is probably slightly higher-echelon of an NBA player than Devers is in MLB. But it’s fair to call them both superstars.
Doncic is a generational talent. Devers is one of the best hitters on the planet.

The Giants also aren’t quite the worldwide brand as the Lakers. Maybe if Devers had been traded to the Dodgers, that would’ve matched up more.
But regardless, these deals came out of the blue, to the point that everyone looked around for a minute to see if the social media posts breaking the trade were fake.
They were real, though, and both leagues were changed forever.
The Red Sox just better hope their trade works out better than the early Dallas indications on the Doncic deal.
When you trade away a superstar, it has a tendency to not work out too well.
