The Boston Red Sox have already traded away Rafael Devers this season. Could they shock the league again and trade Alex Bregman before the trade deadline?
After trading Devers, the Red Sox have plenty of money to spend. Presumably, Bregman would be their top priority as he is already in their clubhouse and has already shown he can produce for them. He was slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs before his quad injury. He and his agent, Scott Boras, are open to extension talks, but The Athletic’s Jim Bowden would not be surprised if Bregman is traded if there is no extension in place by the trade deadline.
The Red Sox are in fourth place in the American League East, and their playoff hopes are slowly fading away. If they go into negotiations with Bregman and realize they are far apart, they could look to trade him for some return. Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer proposed this trade that would send Bregman to the Seattle Mariners.
- Red Sox receive: RHP Luis Castillo and 2B Michael Arroyo (Mariners No. 6)
- Mariners receive: 3B Alex Bregman
The Mariners’ starting rotation outside of Garrett Crochet has been subpar, to say the least. Castillo has two more years and a vesting option on his five-year, $108 million deal. He is a three-time All-Star and could be a key part of the team’s rotation for the next few years.

The Mariners need to capitalize on an MVP-caliber season from Cal Raleigh. Bregman would be a significant upgrade from Ben Williamson at third base.
