The Boston Red Sox may not have solved their first base crisis on Thursday, but they made an effort toward doing so.
Boston traded cash to the Los Angeles Angels to acquire Ryan Noda.
Noda, 29, previously played for the Oakland Athletics.
The big lefty swinger gives Boston a chance to replace Triston Casas at 1B after his season-ending knee injury.
Since superstar Rafael Devers has opted not to learn the new position, Boston is looking to other solutions to plug the hole.
Noda was a 15th-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2017 out of the University of Cincinnati.

He never made the bigs until the Athletics used a Rule 5 Draft pick on him before the 2023 season.
Noda slugged 16 home runs with 22 doubles in 128 games in that ensuing 2023 season, putting up a .770 OPS.
He struggled mightily in 2024, though, and latched on with the Angels before this season.
This season at Triple-A Salt Lake, Noda has four home runs and a pair of doubles.
He probably isn’t the long-term solution, but if he can give the Red Sox some competitive plate appearances for a few weeks until they come up with a better plan, it’s certainly worth a bit of cash.
