Red Sox slugger has perfect reaction to trade rumors

This offseason, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has heard his name mentioned in trade rumors early and often, as the team has looked to improve their roster for the 2025 season and beyond.

While the Red Sox have denied shopping Casas this offseason, the fact that so many reports over the last few months points to the club at least being willing to listen.

Speaking at the Fenway Fan Fest on Saturday, the 24-year-old had the perfect response to all of the trade talk.

“Hopefully I put up some numbers, and we get back to contract extension talks,” Casas said on WEEI. “The Sox were my first team and hopefully my last. I play for the six letters on my chest.”

He said he’s spoken to the front office about the rumors and has been reassured about his standing in the organization.

“They’ve told me that none of the rumors are true. Maybe all that other stuff is all clickbait,” Casas said (via. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo). “For right now, they’re trying to assure me they want me to play here for a long time… They bring it up to me jokingly, almost.”

If Casas remains healthy this season, he could easily be one of the team’s best hitters and help them reach the postseason for the first time since 2021.
