Red Sox should consider reuniting with former reliever after stint with NL West club

The Boston Red Sox may have added Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson to their bullpen, but they’ve also lost Kenley Jansen, Chris Martin, Luis Garcia, Brad Keller, Cam Booser Chase Shugart and Lucas Sims.

With that said, the Red Sox should still be looking for ways to upgrade their relief situation before the 2025 MLB season starts, and one option is bringing back Ryan Brasier.

Braiser, 37, played for Boston from 2018-23 before the club released him in May of 2023. Since then, he’s played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 1.89 ERA, 0.825 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 in 66 2/3 innings over 68 appearances (four starts).

Los Angeles designated Brasier for assignment last week after signing Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott, two of the top relief options on the market.

It’s clear that something was off during his last season with the Red Sox when he posted a 7.29 ERA, 1.571 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 in 20 outings (21 innings). Perhaps, pitching coach Andrew Bailey can get Brasier to pitch the way he has with Los Angeles, and if that’s the case, he’d be an upgrade for Boston.
