The Boston Red Sox knew they hit the jackpot with Roman Anthony, and signed him to a very team-friendly contract extension of eight years, $130 million. Now, if he does live up to that deal, which it is very likely, he might get an even bigger one in the future.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the same, predicting that Anthony will get at least a $250 million extension for his next contract.

“Boston bought out Anthony’s twenties on a big extension shortly after his arrival in the big leagues, but it’s plausible he could get a second, even bigger contract if he ends up making this one look like a laughably team-friendly deal over the course of the next decade,” Miller wrote.
In his first-ever MLB season, Anthony slashed .292/.396/.463/.859 with 18 doubles, eight home runs, and 32 RBI in 71 games. He was the lifeblood of the offense, and when he went down with his season-ending oblique injury, the Sox proved their offense was basically nothing without him.

Now, next season, Anthony has a chance to play a full season. And, with his experience from this year, he could be an MVP candidate.
If that comes true, then Miller’s prediction probably won’t be far off. Hopefully when the time comes the Sox don’t repeat their mistake from 2019, and make sure Anthony is in Boston for his career.
