Red Sox projected to receive multiple All-Stars in blockbuster trade

The Boston Red Sox are looking for a few more splashes this offseason to call it a great success, and this trade proposal would solve at least two of the Sox’s three main problems. In it, the Sox would trade Wilyer Abreu, Masataka Yoshida, and prospect Mikey Romero.

For the Sox, this solves two of their three problems; finding a righty slugger and another starting pitcher. Last season, Arozarena had splits of .219/.332/.388/.720 with 33 doubles and 20 homers. Castillo finished the season with a record of 11-12, an ERA of 3.64, and 175 strikeouts.

Another plus for the Red Sox is Arozarena’s contract. Currently, he has one year and $11.5 million left on his contract. That means if the Sox trade for him, depending on how he does the next season, they can either let him walk or extend him, and it won’t hurt their pockets much.

So why would the Mariners give up two All-Star caliber players? Simply put, their offense blows, and they have too many big contracts. By taking Abreu and Yoshida, they would gain more cap space to go after other players, while getting quality lefty hitting to balance out their righty-dominant lineup.

Hopefully, the Sox consider this deal. It could set them up very well, and all they would have to do would be to sign a couple of stud relievers, and then the Sox would be deep playoff contenders.
