Red Sox predicted to trade for All-Star starting pitcher with 2.63 ERA in blockbuster deal

You can never have enough pitching.

For the Boston Red Sox, there’s a chance to get a really good starter sometime between now and the MLB Trade Deadline.

That pitcher? Seattle’s Logan Gilbert.

SI’s Jackson Roberts pitches the deal between the Mariners and Red Sox.

The idea stems from the report by ESPN’s David Schoenfield that mentioned the All-Star Gilbert as a possible trade candidate.

“If (the Mariners) do collapse, Gilbert — who wasn’t signed to an extension like Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh were — would bring back a blockbuster return given he has two more years of team control and an impeccable record for health and durability (not to mention a brilliant start to 2025).”

Gilbert, 27, already has 41 strikeouts in 27.1 innings to start the year.

Last season, Gilbert struck out 220 guys and led the MLB in WHIP.

He even has a great contract, through 2027 team control.

That likely makes the trade context involving anyone here pretty tricky.

Gilbert would cost an absolute fortune.

It’s unlikely the Red Sox would do such a deal so soon.

Something at the trade deadline makes more sense, because it’s hard to know exactly how in the thick of things Boston will be until it gets closer to crunchtime for trades.

If the Mariners and Red Sox both find themelves intertwined in this idea, it means Boston is gonna get a relative quick home run.

If Gilbert joins the team in red, too, he could join the roster and get them closer to return to the fall classic.
