The Boston Red Sox have a deep batting lineup.
Nearly from top to bottom, Boston can give opposing pitchers trouble.
The one spot that’s probably not true is at catcher. The Red Sox had Connor Wong there to open the season, but he’s out for extended time with a broken pinky finger.
That sets up potential trade pursuits, with a couple of possible targets, according to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller.
Miller suggests the Red Sox should go after one of the two Contreras brothers, both All-Stars, either Willson or William.
William has multiple years remaining on his contract and is the cheaper and younger of the two. The contending Brewers might be reluctant to move him.

Willson is under contract through 2028 and has also done a lot less catching for the Cardinals of late. Given St. Louis is probably heading for a full rebuild, Willson seems the more likely to be moved.
Miller also says the Red Sox could pursue old friend Christian Vazquez, who is currently playing for the Minnesota Twins.
Boston has the most info on Wong’s injury, of course, so how urgent a possible deal is certainly is clearer inside the Red Sox building. But if they feel they definitely need a catcher, there are at least a few options to go after.
And for a contending team, maybe it’s worth trying to get a deal done sooner rather than later in order to keep up in the competitive AL East.
