Red Sox predicted to retain $120 million All-Star through long-term extension

The Boston Red Sox had one of the best signings this offseason, getting Alex Bregman, as he has become a leader of the team. Now, facing the possibility to opt-out, people are wondering if he will leave Boston after one year.

Fansided’s Zachary Rotman is not one of those people, as he believes that Bregman has found a long-term home in Boston, and will make a deal to ensure that.

“Bregman had to settle for a short-term deal with opt-outs last offseason, but it goes without saying that he’s earned the long-term deal that he and Scott Boras wanted last winter. After trading Devers away, the last thing the Red Sox can afford to do is lose Bregman to free agency. I’m going to assume that John Henry will pony up and give Bregman the long-term deal he deserves and Bregman will stay with the team he’s clearly enjoyed being a part of,” Rotman wrote.

This year, Bregman has slashed .281/.364/.485/.849 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI. He was injured for two months, which could hurt his chances in free agency. Also, he’s been going through a slump recently, as before August, he was hitting close to or over .300, and now is down at .281.

Both of these things point to a Sox long-term deal, as the Sox know what they have, and they don’t want to give it up. After dealing Rafael Devers and signing Roman Anthony to a team-friendly extension, keeping Bregman in Boston should be a done deal.
