Red Sox phenom Kristian Campbell sets impressive record as he seeks call back to Boston

Kristian Campbell captured Red Sox fans’ attention when he surprisingly began the season on the Boston MLB roster.

Then, he got cold, and was subsequently sent down to Triple-A Worcester.

Lately, Campbell is anything but cold. He’s on a 15-game hitting streak with Worcester, which is a record for the Worcester Red Sox.

In that stretch, Campbell’s stats are (via Matthew Crory):

  • .393 AVG
  • .469 OBP
  • .589 SLG
  • 1.058 OPS
  • 3 HRs
  • 9 RBI
  • 7 BB (to 12 Ks)

The Red Sox at the MLB level have noticed what the 23-year old is up to.

Chief Baseball Officer of the Red Sox, Craig Breslow, shared his thoughts with reporters this week.

“We still are incredibly confident in the contribution that he’s going to make to this organization over the next nine or 10 years,” Breslow said. “And I think we can start to see him getting back into the form that we recognize and have come to appreciate….So still very, very confident in what he’s going to bring to this team.”

Manager Alex Cora chimed in, too.

“There’s still work to do,” Cora said. “He’s still a work in progress… he’s gotten better. The numbers show that. But there’s a few things under the hood that we still need to get better at.”

Campbell was the first up of the big three Red Sox prospect group that also included Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer. Now, those two are in the bigs but Campbell is back down in the minor leagues.

They should be reunited soon, and expect them to be in Boston together for a long time. Campbell still belongs.
