Red Sox fans have grown used to the “all-or-nothing” era of the 21st century, when their ball club either contends for a championship or doesn’t even sniff the AL East title. The past year has been no different — after an underwhelming 81-81 season in 2024, all signs point to Boston being on the precipice of a bounce-back campaign in 2025.
Of course, we can’t talk Boston Red Sox without mentioning the evil empire, the reigning AL-champion New York Yankees. But the Sox made plenty of upgrades since last season, and they actually sit within the top 10 in World Series odds (20-to-1).

The sportsbooks obviously took note of Boston’s many moves. The Sox added former White Sox ace Garrett Crochet as well as veteran starter Walker Buehler. They signed Alex Bregman to add pop to the front of the batting order. They beefed up their bullpen with Aroldis Chapman, and improved their defense mightily. Oh, and they still have stars Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran, as well as a bevy of prospects ready for call-ups whenever needed.
With the Yankees banged up and the Orioles coming off a relatively tame winter, do the Red Sox have enough ammunition to make a run at the pennant? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: it’s a good time to catch some games at Fenway Park.
