The Boston Red Sox aren’t in a great spot.
That means veteran manger Alex Cora has gotten some tough questions of late.
And although it appears Boston has ruled out the idea of firing Cora, the heat continued on Tuesday night.
The Red Sox lost a one-run game for the 17th time this season when the Angels finished the job in the 10th inning.
Cora, at this point, feels he has to take the blame.
“We keep making the same mistakes,” Cora said. “At one point, it has to be on me, I guess. I’m the manager. I’ve got to keep pushing them to be better.”

Just because the Red Sox aren’t firing Cora doesn’t mean he has no case to be dismissed.
Just those lines putting the blame on himself there would be enough for some ownership groups to dismiss him.
In Tuesday’s loss, the Red Sox committed three errors and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
“You get frustrated but at one point, it’s, ‘OK, what are we gonna do about it? What’s gonna change?’ Because we keep doing the same thing, same thing,” Cora said. “Are we gonna keep talking about one-run losses? We have what, 17 or 18? It’s the same thing, same thing. Is it effort? Is it preparation, attention to detail? I have no idea. I watched that game and was like, ‘Wow, this is real.’ It’s frustrating.”
The Red Sox lead the majors with 53 errors, worse even than the putrid Rockies.
“Routine ground balls for double plays, we don’t turn,” Cora said. “We throw to the wrong bases. We miss cut-off games. PFPs (pitcher fielding practices) were horrible. There’s a lot of bad right now.
Cora was a long-time MLB infielder before taking over in Boston in 2018.
As a manager, Cora has a 550-484 mark.
The Red Sox have stumbled this year, at 29-34 so far. Cora is supposedly safe, but there’ll be a lot going on, so who knows how things might shakeup if the Red Sox keep losing games by a run.
