Red Sox listed as possible fit for $79 million D-Backs All-Star

The Boston Red Sox are currently in the third American League Wild Card spot at 54-49. They sit six games back in the AL East.

After finishing the first half with a 10-game winning streak, any talk of them being sellers at the trade deadline has gone quiet. Instead, they will likely be buying or at least holding firm.

Boston could use a bat to boost its lineup. They have been linked to players such as Josh Naylor and Ryan O’Hearn.

However, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed an interesting idea, that they could be in the mix for Eugenio Suarez.

“The Red Sox have done surprisingly well on offense since trading Rafael Devers, but there’s still a clear need for right-handed power in their lineup. To this end, Suárez could slot in at DH in deference to Alex Bregman at third,” Rymer wrote.

Suarez could significantly boost the Red Sox lineup. Rymer admits that this is an unlikely proposal, given that Bregman is already at third base and the pitching staff needs a little bit of work.

Still, Boston could potentially even move Suarez or Bregman to first base to allow the other to play third. The team has performed quite well since the Rafael Devers.

Fenway Park is a hitter friendly environment, and Suarez could benefit from the Green Monster out in left field as a right-handed power bat.

The two-time All-Star is hitting .254/.325/.598 with 36 home runs, 86 RBI and a .924 OPS. He also has a 3.4 WAR.

It will be interesting to see where Boston lands in its search for offense, but as unlikely as it may seem, Suarez might be a good fit.
