Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas looked to suffer a long-term injury in the bottom of the second inning of Friday night’s game against the Twins at Fenway Park.
Casas hit a ball to the right side of the mound leading off the inning that Twins pitcher Joe Ryan fielded and threw to first. On his way to the bag, Casas’ knee buckled after seemingly tripping on the first baseman’s leg.
He immediately grabbed for his left knee, and after being tended to by Boston’s trainers, was ultimately carted off the field at Fenway Park.
The graphic injury is linked here:
Casas was hitting .182, with three homers and 11 RBIs in 29 games thus far in 2025. He played only 63 games last season because of torn rib cartilage in his chest.
In 2023, Casas finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting, batting .263 with 24 home runs, 65 RBIs, a .856 OPS and a 2.2 WAR.
Casas will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this coming winter.
Romy Gonzalez replaced Casas after the injury.
Fans will likely vouch for the Red Sox to promote outfielder Roman Anthony, the No.1 prospect in baseball, to the big leagues.
Anthony has a 290/.422/.527 slash line in 26 games at Triple-A Worcester.
