It was already a weird trade.
The Boston Red Sox sent superstar slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday for two MLB pitchers and two middling prospects.
Boston made it odder with the announcement they made after the deal was official.
They were sending down one of the pitchers acquired in the deal, Kyle Harrison, to Triple-A Worcester.
MORE: Why the Red Sox traded away Rafael Devers
Harrison was supposed to start the Giants’ Sunday Night Baseball game just moments after the trade was reported.
Instead, he had to leave the ballpark to go join a new team.
And he won’t even get to start in the major leagues.

Harrison isn’t a flawless pitcher, but this gets more and more bizarre.
Jordan Hicks, the other major league arm in the trade, has a 6.43 ERA on the season and got removed from the Giants’ rotation.

And now the Red Sox feel so highly about Harrison that they send him straight to the minor leagues.
This trade feels like it took about 10 seconds to start aging poorly.
