The Boston Red Sox are off to an uneven start in 2025. Coming out of the gates at 8-10 is nothing new to this franchise recently, but this roster entered the season with high expectations.
Of course, the headlines have been mainly focused on Rafael Devers’ dismal start to the season, but the offense has not been this team’s biggest problem. So far, the Red Sox’s pitching staff is giving up more than 5 runs a game, which ranks 25th in Major League Baseball.
The starting pitching has not been up to par, and while much of that can be attributed to injuries, this franchise needs to bolster its rotation’s depth. According to Colin Keane, a contributing journalist for “Boston Red Sox On Sport Illustrated,” this team’s front office should pursue a trade for Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Bobby Miller and used the following justification.
“Miller has been back and forth between the minors and The Show over the last year or two,” Keane said. “He has a world of talent — it’s why Los Angeles selected him at No. 29 overall in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft and made him part of their Opening Day rotation last season.
But Miller has also struggled in stretches for a Dodgers team that isn’t currently designed to put up with anything less than championship excellence. If the Dodgers are up for trading Miller, he’d be a low-risk, potentially high-reward arm for the Red Sox to take a flyer on.”
Two seasons ago, Miller went 11-4 with a 3.76 ERA and looked prime to be a regular feature in the Dodgers rotation. The 26-year-old could immediately be a key player on the Red Sox should he be traded.

The organization’s pitching staff has recently developed capable players such as Brayan Bello and Richard Fitts over the past few years. The Red Sox should, therefore, have plenty of confidence that they can get the best out of Miller as they look to climb back up the American League East standings.
