Red Sox could add All-Star $15 million pitcher, per MLB insiders

The Boston Red Sox have done everything they can this season to upgrade the starting rotation.

In the offseason, the Red Sox traded for Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet and signed Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler.

The Red Sox might not be done making moves to their starting rotation, and Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan from ESPN think the team could be a good fit to trade for Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta.

“Peralta has been a steady presence for years, averaging 140 innings pitched with a 3.49 ERA over the past four seasons,” Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan from ESPN wrote. He’s on track to do that again, with his heavily used fastball coming in at a career-high average velocity of 94.9 mph this season. He has an ultra-cheap $8 million option for 2026. Best fits: Boston, Houston, Toronto, St. Louis, Arizona, San Diego, Baltimore.”

Peralta is in the middle of a five-year, $15 million contract with a club option next season, so if the Red Sox were to trade for him, they could pick up Peralta’s club option for $8 million next season before he hits free agency in 2027.

Peralta, a one-time All-Star, made an appearance in 2021, but despite having only one All-Star game to his name in seven years, he has been one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball over that period.
