Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman is having the best season of his career, and one of the best in MLB history. He was already putting up video game numbers this season, and after his latest outing, they’re even crazier.
DraftKings’ Jordan Moore revealed that Chapman, who now is at a 1.00 ERA, has a chance to make Red Sox history.

“If Aroldis Chapman (1.00 ERA) throws 5.0 more innings without giving up a run, he’ll have the lowest season ERA of any relief pitcher in Red Sox history. Jonathan Papelbon currently holds the record with 0.92 ERA in 2006. He’s gone 46 straight batters without giving up a hit,” Moore tweeted.
Papelbon, the current holder of the record, also reached out on X, stating he hopes Chapman does it, and records are meant to be broken.
“Records are meant to be broke. I hope he breaks it and if @RedSox make playoffs I hope has a better postseason!” Papelbon posted.

Chapman has a really good shot at breaking the record. After their series against the Cleveland Guardians, the Sox play the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Athletics. All three teams are middle to bottom of the league teams, so Chapman should be able to continue lowering his ERA against them.
If Chapman does break the record, that could make him a Sox legend in just one season. Even then, he has at least another season to make his mark in Boston history.
