Red Sox CBO lays out plans for the rest of the offseason

Through the first two months of the offseason, the Boston Red Sox have acquired two starting pitchers who can slot in near the top of their rotation, a backup catcher to spell Connor Wong and some bullpen help.

However, with months still until Spring Training what will the Red Sox focus on next?

According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow explained this week that his front office will continue looking for opportunities to balance out their lineup and add more relief options.

At this point, Boston’s lineup will likely include just two or three right-handed bats (Wong, Trevor Story and Kristian Campbell/Ceddanne Rafaela/Vaughn Grissom). They could still make trades and/or signings to balance that lineup.

Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, Jurickson Profar and old friend Adam Duvall are all still on the market, and Nolan Arenado is still a trade candidate from the St. Louis Cardinals.

As far as the bullpen goes, the three top options entering the offseason (Tanner Scott, Jeff Hoffman and David Robertson) are all still free agents. 2024 Red Sox Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin remain unsigned as well.

Boston still has the money to spend and prospects to trade to continue improving their roster, and Breslow needs to do whatever he can to get his club back to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
