The Boston Red Sox are having a great season this year, but they only have a month left before the playoffs, and they need to field the best team possible. Their bullpen has been a little shaky, but it seems they may have a new guy to add in September.
According to Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow, the Red Sox have a high possibility of promoting their top pitching prospect, Payton Tolle, to Boston in September.

“When there is a guy with these unique traits and what we think should be weapons that will translate into the big leagues, then you start to look at the variables that are introduced by changing the environment, the crowd, the stadium,” said chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. “By all accounts, he is a kid that kind of elevates his game. We don’t anticipate that the stage is too big for him. So, if we think he’s ready, we wouldn’t hesitate to give it a shot” (via Alex Speier).

Tolle has been dominating in the minors, and going from A+ all the way to AAA in just this season. In Worcester, he’s got an ERA of 3.12, 124 strikeouts, a WHIP of 1.04, and a BAA of just .210.
If the Sox promote him, he could easily slide in the bullpen, or he could become the fifth starter in the rotation. Either way, he could contribute at the highest level, and the Sox should give him the call as soon as they can.
