The Boston Red Sox still have months to go until the start of 2025 Spring Training, but they’ve already started making plans for the camp.
While Boston will have their 40-man roster in Fort Myers, Florida, they also have the option to invite players who are not on the 40-man to compete for spots.
On Friday, the Red Sox announced that they’ll have six non-roster invitees with them at JetBlue Park in late February. Here’s a list of who will be there:
C Seby Zavala
Zavala, 31, was a 12th-round pick of the Chicago White Sox in the 2015 MLB draft. He debuted in 2019 and has spent the last two seasons with Chicago, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Seattle Mariners. Boston signed Zavala to a minor-league deal last month.
In 18 games last season for Seattle, he hit. 214 with a .496 OPS, one home run and two RBIs.
IF/OF Nate Eaton
Eaton, 27, was a 21st-round pick of the Kansas City Royals in the 2018 MLB draft. He debuted with the club in 2022, but he spent the entire 2024 season with Triple-A Omaha, where he hit .252 with a .738 OPS, 16 home runs, 60 RBIs and 27 stolen bases in 116 games.
Boston signed him to a minor-league deal last month.
RHP Isaiah Campbell
Campbell, 27, was a second-round pick of the Mariners in the 2019 MLB draft and debuted with the club in 2023. Boston acquired him in a trade for Luis Urias last November.
He appeared in eight games for Boston out of the bullpen in 2024, posting a 16.20 ERA, 2.400 WHIP and 8.1 K/9 over 6 2/3 innings.
RHP Michael Fulmer
Fulmer, 31, was a first-round pick of the New York Mets in the 2011 MLB draft. The Mets traded him to the Detroit Tigers in 2015, and he debuted with the club the following year, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 and All-Star honors in 2017.
He was traded to the Minnesota Twins in 2022 and spent 2023 with the Chicago Cubs where he suffered a UCL injury that cost him the entire 2024 season. Boston signed him to a two-year deal last February.
RHP Bryan Mata
Mata, 25, signed with Boston as an international free agent in 2016 out of Venezuela. While he was once one of the organization’s top prospects, injuries have really slowed his development over the last few seasons.
RHP Wyatt Mills
Mills, 29, was a third-round pick of the Mariners in the 2017 MLB draft, and he debuted with the club in 2021. Seattle traded him to the Kansas City Royals in 2022, who then flipped him to Boston later that year.
He underwent Tommy John surgery in the middle of 2023 and missed all of 2024. His last in-game pitch came in 2022 for Kansas City.
