Real Madrid superstar hungry for more after underwhelming performance last season

Jude Bellingham is determined to deliver for Real Madrid after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign saw Los Blancos go trophyless.

The England international opened his account for the season in Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League win over Juventus on Wednesday (October 22).

Bellingham reacted quickly to tap home the rebound after Vinicius Junior’s shot struck the post in the 57th minute, extending Madrid’s perfect start in Europe to three wins in three matches.

It was his first goal since last summer’s Club World Cup, with the midfielder having missed the opening weeks of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Bellingham hungry for more

Speaking at full-time on Wednesday, Bellingham admitted he was thrilled to rediscover his scoring touch, while admitting that Madrid’s performances last season were not up the mark.

“It’s a great feeling,” Bellingham told CBS Sports.

“It has been a long time now since I’ve scored, it’s been a lot of time out and dreaming of that moment, back in the Champions League and against a big team.

“To score a winner, here at home, it’s unbelievable. I felt comfortable, really good. To play well was important, and to score the winning goal helps the team a lot.

The England international also gave his verdict on last season’s performances, which saw Madrid lose out to Barcelona on all domestic fronts in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, while also being eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

“I didn’t think last year was a disaster, ” he said.

“I still got 15 goals, 14 assists, but I know the general feeling was that it was worse.

“I was a part of that, how we didn’t play as well last year. There were still good moments, but it was not the level I wanted to play at, not a level like the first year.”

But Bellingham holds plenty of optimism for the future, with Xabi Alonso now in charge.

“Now I’ve had my shoulder surgery, we’ve got a new manager, he’s got that shape, how we want to play. You have to learn from it,” he concluded.

Madrid are in action next this Sunday (October 26) as they host Barcelona in a marquee Clasico clash at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
