Real Madrid suffer injury blow to midfield ahead of first La Liga match

Real Madrid are arriving slightly banged up to their first La Liga match with injuries to Ferland Mendy, Endrick, and the big one in Jude Bellingham. Now, they have announced that French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has suffered an ankle sprain in Sunday’s training session according to realmadrid.com.

This is a blow to Real Madrid as they lose another midfielder for their first game of the season. Turkish wonder kid Arda Guler is the likely beneficiary as he was already getting minutes at the Club World Cup and performed well with the opportunity given to him.

They will lose a lot of their physicality in the midfield for the first game of the season but that shouldn’t be a huge factor against an Osasuna team who will look to sit back and hit Madrid on counters and set-pieces.

As for Camavinga, he is yet to play under Xabi Alonso as he struggled with injuries during the summer and had consistent injury issues throughout last season. According to transfermarkt.us, he had four separate injuries last season forcing him out for a total of 159 days.

The concern for Madrid fans shouldn’t be just about this individual injury but about the consistent injury problems that seem to plague an extremely talented player.

Camavinga is a special talent that has a lot of versatility and will have a role in any team in the world. The issue is that he might not ever be a starting player at Madrid with Bellingham and Valverde being better players right now, and his compatriot Aurelien Tchouameni just being more consistently fit than him.
