Real Madrid star faces uncertain future after losing Xabi Alonso’s trust

Xabi Alonso has been extremely authoritative in his demands since joining Real Madrid this summer.

He has forced the club to make substantial investment in improving the backline with the additions of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras.

They may be reportedly in the market for another defender, considering the injuries and inconsistent form of senior defenders David Alaba and Eder Militao.

Amid so many uncertainties in the backline, Raul Asencio should have been a prominent figure in Real Madrid’s backline.

But the youngster’s recent performances for Los Blancos have had a drastic impact on his future as Alonso has lost trust in the young defender, as per reports via ok diario.

Ascensio has no one but himself to blame, as he didn’t contribute his best at the Club World Cup and failed to pass Alonso’s eye test, putting his future at the club in danger.

There’s a lot of uncertainty around the 22-year-old who signed a new contract until 2031 after delivering some exceptional performances last season under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti.

Asencio made full use of the injuries to other experienced defenders and broke into the first team with some sublime performances.

However, his performances saw a steep decline in the latter part of the last season, and it was more evident in the Club World Cup.

Why has Alonso lost trust in Raul Asencio?

Asencio made a glaring error in the first match against Al Hilal, conceding a penalty. In the second game against Pachuca, he was sent off for a reckless challenge.

The Spanish tactician omitted him from the starting eleven in the upcoming games until the semifinals against PSG, due to Huijsen’s absence.

His decision-making and passing from the backline have been a major area of concern for the Spanish manager, as it is an important area of his playing style.

Alonso, reportedly, wants to play a three-man defensive setup, and Asencio’s performances don’t inspire enough confidence to include him in his plans.

Asencio, on the other hand, is determined to prove his mettle at Real Madrid, rejecting advances from clubs like Chelsea, PSG, AC Milan and Porto.

Considering Real Madrid’s depth in defence and Alonso’s reliance on a three-man backline, Asencio may get opportunities to redeem himself, that too if he continues in Madrid beyond the summer.
