Real Madrid are back involved in the summer transfer market following their elimination from the FIFA Club World Cup.
As their journey in the competition came to an end with a ruthless 4-0 loss to PSG in the semifinals, Los Blancos have now concluded their 2024/25 season, with a second-place finish in La Liga and no major trophies.
Ahead of the new campaign, Xabi Alonso is looking to strengthen his squad, after already bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, and it appears the Spanish giants are keen on bringing another Reds star to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid are rumoured to be plotting a summer swoop for Ibrahima Konate, whose contract at Anfield expire next summer, and there has been no update on a renewal.
According to Edu Aguirre of El Chiringuito ]via Real Madrid Confidential], Los Blancos have reached Konate, who is interested in a potential transfer.
“He’s eager to come to Real Madrid. Right before signing Huijsen, we mentioned Real Madrid had contacted Konate. We reported it here, and the player is still eager to come to Real Madrid. The club’s strategy is to wait until next summer, because that’s when his contract ends.”

“It’ll be done just like with Alexander-Arnol. Real Madrid’s idea is to wait for Konate and the player is delighted.”
Konate has reportedly turned down multiple offers of a contract extension at Liverpool amid frustration over the terms offered.
What’s next for Ibrahima Konate and Real Madrid?
While Real Madrid are ready to wait for another year to sign Konate on a free transfer, Liverpool do not want to allow another of their stars join the La Liga giants without turning a significant profit.
Liverpool have set an asking price of £43m [$58m] for Konate this summer, but Real Madrid will not offer more than £25m [$33m] million for the Frenchman, as per several reports from Spain.
Real Madrid’s interest in Konate comes amid their plans to strengthen their backline after suffering due to injuries last season.
Real Madrid will return to action in their opening La Liga match of the 2025/26 season, against Osasuna on August 19 in the Spanish capital.
