Real Madrid set fresh price tag on ‘out of favour’ Arsenal target

Arsenal are on the verge of finishing second in the Premier League standings for the third consecutive season. With every passing season, the pressure on manager Mikel Arteta is rising, and therefore, he is desperate to make wholesale changes in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are eager to sign attackers who can share the goalscoring burden and also improve their overall lineup.

Recent reports via Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg suggested that Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes.

The Brazilian winger reportedly is unsettled in Madrid as he doesn’t feel appreciated enough since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

Rodrygo has gone down in the pecking order with the likes of Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. taking centre stage and hogging most of the limelight at the Madrid capital. Therefore, he may leave the club this summer.

Also, Los Blancos are reportedly interested in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, which means it may be the end of the road for the Brazilian in the royal whites.

Fresh reports from Spain via Cadena SER suggest that Real Madrid have set a €80 million (£67.5m) pricetag for Rodrygo. At this point, two Premier League clubs are allegedly after the Brazilian.

Where are Arsenal with the Rodrygo deal?

The Gunners are in a tight spot at the moment as they were previously interested in Williams. But after Real Madrid’s intervention, they are trying to lure away Rodrygo from Santiago Bernabeu.

However, they reportedly understand that it is a difficult proposition and would need a hefty fee. But it is also an area where they need to improve to challenge teams like Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League crown.

So at this point, the North Londoners are exploring the scenario of landing the 24-year-old.

Rodrygo has netted 13 goals and provided nine assists in 50 appearances for the club this season. These are decent numbers considering he plays for a team with a stacked forwardline.

His current contract runs till 2028 and therefore, Los Blancos are in no hurry to cash in on him.

The 24-year-old joined Real Madrid from Santos for €45m (£39.3m) in 2018, and since then, he has won 13 trophies with the Spanish giants, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.

He is someone who is known for his versatility, explosiveness, great pace and dribbling ability and can be a perfect fit for Arteta’s system.
