Real Madrid reportedly eye two Premier League stars this summer

Real Madrid are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the next season.

The Spanish giants are reportedly eyeing two key defenders from the Premier League to bolster their backline.

Injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao have exposed Real Madrid’s defensive vulnerabilities this season.

As a result, the club is keen on signing reinforcements, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro emerging as top targets, according to multiple reports (via TEAMtalk).

Real Madrid eye defensive reinforcement?

Romero, a World Cup-winning center-back, has been a crucial player for Spurs under manager Ange Postecoglou.

His contract with the North London club runs until 2027, and Tottenham are expected to demand around £60 million ($77m) for the Argentine defender.

While there is no release clause in his contract, Madrid sees him as an ideal addition to their squad.

Pedro Porro, another Tottenham defender, has also been linked with a move to Spain. While Madrid’s primary target for the right-back position remains Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, they have reportedly identified Porro as an alternative should they fail to secure the England international.

Meanwhile, Madrid are also monitoring Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as they look to add a young and promising center-back to their ranks.

The 21-year-old English defender has impressed this season, and Everton are likely to demand a fee of over £70 million ($90m) for their prized asset.

Tottenham’s stand on transfers

Despite the growing interest from Madrid, Tottenham are not in a rush to sell. The club is financially stable and does not need to offload key players.

Additionally, Spurs are looking to add more depth to their defense, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi among their reported targets.

However, Real Madrid’s lure of Champions League football could be tempting for Romero, especially if Tottenham fails to qualify for Europe next season.

The Spanish club remains determined to secure top-quality defensive reinforcements and could make a strong push for these Premier League stars in the coming months.
