Real Madrid are all set to overhaul their roster under the leadership of manager Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard is keen to make wholesale changes to the team, and therefore, they have wrapped up three transfers already in the summer transfer window.
Los Blancos have added two crucial defensive signings in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. They monitored both players for some time before snapping them up.
Apart from the defenders, they have also signed Argentine sensation Franco Mastantuono from River Plate. He is termed as ‘one for the future’ for his technical ability and set-piece skills.
While they had to trigger Huijsen’s release clause, they signed Alexander-Arnold free as his contract ran out with Liverpool. Later, they had to pay €10 million to secure the player before the Club World Cup.
Over the years, Real Madrid have used this tactic to great effect. They have signed Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba for free in the last few years.
Now, as per reports from Marca, Real Madrid are monitoring the contract situation of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. Alonso is a big admirer of the French centre-back, and he could easily be their next free transfer signing.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig as a talented youngster and has soon developed into one of the key players in this Liverpool team that went on to win the Premier League crown.
What is Konate’s contract situation?
Konate has shown great development at Anfield as he has become one of the mainstays at Merseyside. His performances for Liverpool also helped him become a regular for the France national team, where he plays alongside William Saliba at the heart of the defence.
The 26-year-old moved to Liverpool in 2021 when the Merseyside club triggered his release clause of £36 million. He instantly made a big impact for the Reds, and he has already featured in 132 appearances for the club.
Konate’s current contract runs out next season, and while the Reds are in talks with the Frenchman over a new contract, a deal is yet to be struck, and with Real Madrid lurking in the background, things could easily go south for Liverpool.
Alonso is focused on improving Real Madrid’s backline. While they have a lot of quality in players like Eder Militao, Rudiger and Alaba, all three of them are extremely injury-prone players and hence, Konate has emerged as a top target.
The 26-year-old is known for his physicality, positional awareness and speed, which helps him in recovery. He is well adept in playing a high defensive line and remains composed even in dire situations.
