Real Madrid have had legendary players throughout their history. Toni Kroos is one such name, as he retired from the club in 2024.
Kroos spent 10 years with the Spanish club, while also playing for Germany on the international stage.
Kroos’ retirement left a huge gap in Real’s midfield, as the veteran was known for his passing accuracy and vision.
The former midfielder has had his say on what he thinks Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid are lacking.
What did Kroos say Real Madrid are lacking?
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Mundo Deportivo, Kross said, “They’re still missing a profile like mine, and they keep looking for it.

“There aren’t many players like that, and the ones that are there aren’t easy to get. It’s too early to judge Xabi’s Real Madrid. It takes time to evaluate the changes and implementation of his ideas.”
Real have made big summer signings, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen both arriving from the Premier League. Franco Mastantuono is also joining Los Blancos after he turns 18 next month.
But the team needs a commanding midfield presence like Kroos, especially with Luka Modrić leaving the club after the Club World Cup.
Alonso is prioritizing his defense, with the manager still pushing for Álvaro Carreras to join the club from Benfica.
Real haven’t been shy about spending money yet, though, and with rumors swirling around Rodrygo, a move for a new midfielder can’t be ruled out entirely.
The club has recently been linked with a move for PSG’s midfielder Vitinha, who would be another big-money signing.
