Ravens’ undrafted rookie Reuben Lowery impresses John Harbaugh amid upcoming roster cuts

Undrafted rookie defensive back Reuben Lowery has steadily impressed the Baltimore Ravens this offseason and preseason. Now, he has earned praise from coach John Harbaugh as the team approaches its roster deadline on Tuesday.

On Saturday, after the team’s 30-3 win over the Washington Commanders, Harbaugh was asked whether Lowery did enough to make him “feel comfortable giving the undrafted rookie a spot” on the team.

“Yeah, I do,” Harbaugh said, according to Ravens reporter Sarah Ellison. “You’re probably going to put more guys in that category than can make the team, though. I think he’s definitely in that category and that’ll be one of those decisions we’re going to have to make. But he did it again today – he played really well.”

Lowery’s football IQ stands out as one of his strongest assets. Earlier this month, defensive coordinator Zach Orr credited him for his versatility and smarts.

“When he came in, he was playing corner and nickel for us, and then we added safety to his plate, and now he’s playing all over the secondary” Orr said. “For an undrafted rookie to do that right away and still make plays is amazing. Obviously, he’s a really smart player.”

Throughout training camp, Lowery has consistently made plays, including multiple interceptions and pass deflections. During one recent practice, he deflected two passes while playing safety.

The Ravens have a crowded secondary. So, it’s a tough decision for Harbaugh and Co. whether Lowery will make the final roster despite being a notable contender.
