Ravens’ Tyler Loop struggling in quest to replace Justin Tucker

The Baltimore Ravens will have a new kicker in 2025. After 13 seasons with the team, Justin Tucker was released by the Ravens amid the NFL’s investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against the veteran kicker.

Head coach John Harbaugh called cutting Tucker a complex decision.

“I mean, you’re talking about arguably the best kicker in the history of the game,” Harbaugh said of Tucker after the release. “And like we said, it’s multi-layered [and] it’s complicated.”

“But in the end, it all comes back to what you have to do to get ready for your team to play the first game,” Harbaugh added. “And I think if you step back and you take a look at all the issues and all the ramifications, you can understand that we’ve got to get our football team ready and we’ve got to have a kicker to go. And that was the move that we decided to make.”

With Tucker out of the picture, Baltimore has turned to Tyler Loop to fill the kicker position. Loop was drafted in the sixth round of April’s draft by the Ravens after spending four seasons as the Wildcats kicker from 2021 to 2024.

Loop is trying to replace one of the greatest kickers in the history of the sport, and though there is still a ton of time left for him to prove himself, he’s not off to a great start.

According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, Loop went 5-of-9 on field goals during OTAs on Wednesday, with all four of his misses coming from 50 yards or more.

“Ravens rookie kicker Tyler Loop was 5-of-9 at OTA on Wednesday. All of Loop’s misses were from 50 yards or longer,” Hensley wrote on X.

During his collegiate career, Loop attempted just 13 field goals from 50+ and hit eight of them. The 23-year-old doesn’t have much experience from that range, so it’s no surprise that he’s struggling from there in practice.

We’ll see if Loop can turn things around as the offseason continues, but the latest update from Hensley is uninspiring.
